Swiss vignette: price and validity

Motorway in Switzerland with snowy Alps in the background

To use the motorways and expressways in Switzerland you need a motorway vignette. Unlike Austria or Slovenia, there is only one vignette: the annual vignette.

How much is the Swiss vignette?

The vignette fee is CHF 40 (as of 2026). It is the same for every vehicle that needs one: car, motorcycle, van, minibus and motorhome up to 3.5 t, as well as trailers and caravans. When you order through our service, a service fee is added and shown separately before you buy.

How long is the vignette valid?

  • The vignette is valid for 14 months: from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year.
  • Until the end of November you get the current year’s vignette, valid until 31 January of the next year.
  • From 1 December the next year’s vignette is sold, see Buying next year’s vignette in December.

You see the exact end date before you buy.

When does the e-vignette start?

The e-vignette is valid as soon as it is bought; there is no waiting period. It cannot be bought retroactively: driving on the motorway without a vignette risks a fine (see Fines without a vignette).

Is there a short-term vignette?

No. Switzerland has no day, 10-day or monthly vignette – even a single transit requires the annual vignette. There is no automatic renewal either: the vignette is bought again every year.

You can order the e-vignette online with us.
